GEAR

After you finish the Academy and use the portal to get to Starkeep's Grand Hall (GH), go (2 west, 1 south, 1 east) to get gear from Wormy. Phrase is ask wormy about equipment. Use this gear or whatever is in the lower vault there in the same room. The gear from Wormy is serviceable to level 5. By level 5, you can either buy Autoloading gear if you have the funds, or buy a personal vault (pvault). This is located: 2 west, 2 north from GH. Some gear can be stored in the pvault. Some examples: elven chain mail, sandals, brass dagger etc. When you log off, unless the gear is specifically autoloading (i.e. jeweled dagger, magical flowing robe) then the gear will fall to the ground.

My opinion on gear: Get a vampiric weapon, such as a BoneStaff for casters or a Thirsting Blade for melee. Having your health/mana/endurance regen from hitting your opponent is very beneficial.

Food/Potions

Carry food such as red apples and other non-rotting food. Buy a bag of holding (start at 3 tricrown and can be found 5 west, 11 north, 1 west of GH. Potions are vital to success and can be bought or found on some mobs or by searching/diving rooms. You can also go to a nearby tavern/bar and buy consumable food to regen.

FANGS

If your guild does not have a spell to regen off the corpse of a fallen foe, then get a set of Fangs (Fangs of Ashura). You can feast the corpse.

Alignment

While leveling, keep an eye on your alignment. I have never played neutral as I prefer to keep alignment pegged on either side of the scale to simplify the game. Kill good things to go evil, bury corpse evil or feast; kill evil things to go good and bury corpse good. Butterflies and Bees work.

AREAS TO LEVEL

Levels (Heritage): The Academy, including the errands for cash, butterflies, and bees just north of Astaria city.

Levels 1-3: Chess Field (pawns are about 1k, minor pieces 2k)

Levels 3-10: Vestechelon Graveyard (skeleton kill quest); Sargual Bogs (water dragon kill quest)

Levels 10-20: Vestechelon Graveyard (ghast kill quest). You can take this area all the way to max level if you want.

Levels 20-30: Ants in the Ant Tunnels by Britlee. Can take this area all the way to max level if you want, but they don't provide as much cash as Vestechelon ghasts.

Levels 30-36: Certain guards in New Sakai are also good, but they are more dangerous than the ants.

There may be better areas. These are what I have used for several characters to reach maximum level in a couple of weeks on each character.

A note on Boss Mobs: It has been my experience that certain boss mobs are too difficult to solo; some classes are better suited to kill certain boss mobs than others. Evaluate the risk and the reward. I find that spending half an hour on a named mob that may have a good drop is not as beneficial as killing an ant that dies within a minute and gives similar experience. But this is my opinion, have at them if you want the challenge.
